Hello, world! This phrase, often used in the world of programming can now be attributed to Stan Hank’s MITS Altair 8800…. Or maybe the phrase should be “Hello again, world” – this is the first entry in what I hope to be a document chronicling the restoration work being done on Hank – Stan Hank’s hand-built Altair 8800. Along the way I’ll share some snippets on Stan and his contributions to the world of IT. More to come… it’s in my hot little hands – next up – getting a bench set up, photographing and doing an inventory of the system, cards, components, documentation. After that, sealing all the boards away in anti-static bags, pulling the whole chassis apart, and cleaning it. The power supply is first up for testing, re-capping and cleaning after that before any attempt can be made with the front panel / CPU and RAM boards.
